Improvements - Final Products

This is my final products for my music magazine. From my evaluation I feel that I have improved my the whole of my music magazine because I have looked back at my audience feedback. The areas where I have improved are using better quality pictures on my double page spread. I feel that these pictures show a good representation of a female RnB artist.

Question 7 - Looking back at my preliminary task what do I feel I have learnt in the progression from it?

Twyla Isles's Slidely by Slidely Slideshow

This slide show shows the differences between my school magazine and my music magazine. The slide show shows how well I've improved for creating magazines. This is shown by the layouts I have used. I have also learnt about the use of fonts and colours I use and how important that is because some fonts and colours can make my magazine look professional and others can make it look childish. With using colours, i have also learnt how well which colours contrast with each other the best. With using fonts I had to think about how big or small my text is on certain pages to create emphasis with my audience. Whilst using fireworks, I learnt about how to use guidelines properly. Guidelines are very important because they can make your magazine look professional.  Another thing I found important, was choosing the right target audience and how to aim it towards them. This is important because for example I wouldn't aim my school magazine at pensioners because they wouldn't need to read and it would be appropriate. Lastly, I had to think about how my models/artists represented themselves towards my audience. For example for my RnB music magazine I had to think about how my models dressed for the photo's. This is because of how my audience would stereotype them.

Question 6 - What have I learnt about technologies in process of constructing my product?

Question 5 evaluation: How did you attract/ address your target audience?

Question 4 evalutation: Who would be the audience for your media product?

My magazine is aimed at teenagers and young adults aged 16 - 25 who are students.  My magazine is mainly aimed at females who are in love with R&B music. My magazine is also aimed at a mixture of ethnicity's. This is because many ethnicity's are listen to this genre of music and they usually are involved in this genre of music. I decided to aim it at students because they usually follow R&B artists style. By this I mean, a lot of students look up to R&B artists, by copying the way they dress and the way they act.  I have also mentioned a lot of popular R&B artists on my front cover. My audience is also for people who are interested in fashion, because they could copy what the celebrities within my magazine are wearing.

I have asked some people, that are related to my target audience, some questions about my magazine. The questions I have asked my audience are: What do you think of my magazine? Would you buy my magazine? Does my magazine suit my target audience? Are the images I have used right for my magazine? Would you pay £1.99 for my magazine? How did I attract my audience? Is there anything you would change about my magazine?

This first response to my questions is from a teenager aged 17 called Trish Masamvi.

Final Product

The genre of my music magazine is RnB and it is aimed at teenagers and young adults aged 17 - 25. I am really happy with my final product because they all look similar by using the same colour scheme. However, I think I should've kept the fonts consistent throughout the whole of my magazine to make it more professional.

Double Page Spread Mock Ups

This is my first mock up of my double page spread for my music magazine. I started off with placing my image on just the right hand side of the page. I kept the colour scheme the same as my contents page and my front cover by using the colours pink, grey, black and white. I then added the headliners name which is 'Hope' I made this in a big font so that it stands out on the page. I also made it in the colour pink so that it bright and it shows a positive vibe to my magazine. Next I added my text to my double page spread. I decided I was going to and question and answer interview. I made the questions in a black colour and the answers in pink so that it contrasts on the page.  I then added my page number and the name of my magazine to my double page spread. However, I don't like this double page spread because there is alot of blank spaces, and the background colour makes it hard for my readers to see the text.

Double Page Spread Mock Up

This is my second mock up for my double page spread for my music magazine. I created this on fireworks. I have kept the colour scheme the same as my front cover and my contents page. Firstly, I decided I was going to use two images, however I made one of the images transparent. Both of these images show how RnB can be shown in a different style by the way the image is represented.  I then added the headliners name which is 'Hope' I made sure this is big and bold so it brings attention to the readers. Next I started to add my text I decided to do an question and answer with Hope for my double page spread. I made the questions in a black bold font and the answers in a pink colour. This is so it contrasts with the background image. I then added the page number for this page. I decided to make this white so that it is clear and it stands out on the page. I then added a pull quote which says "I am finally living the dream". I added a banner to this pull quote because it shows more emphasis on the pull quote and it is more clearer to see. Finally I added my the name of my music magazine in the right hand corner.

Double Page Spread Questions and Answer

This is an inclusive interview with Hope Lescott! At the age of 18 she is already becoming the next RnB queen! Her new single 'Champion' has been at number 1 for two weeks in the UK and it reached number 3 in America! Hope takes a break from the studio to talk about how she became famous and her love for RnB.

How did you get discovered?
I entered a competition and I got to sing in my local town. I didn't win the competition but I got recognised by a record company. They invited me down to London studios to record and they just fell in love with my voice so they signed me to a record deal!

How much has your life changed since being noticed within the music industry?
It has only been a year and I still can't get used to the fans shouting my name every time I leave the house. My life has changed so much. I've always wanted to produce music since I was young and now I am finally living the dream.

Are you friends and family supportive?
All my friends and family are really supportive! They always come and support me when I'm touring or doing little gigs. Sometimes it can get a bit difficult, especially when I'm out with my family and the fans come up to me asking for signatures.

What kind of music do you listen to?
I listen to a lot of genre of music but RnB and Rap is my favourite of course! The only genres of music I don't like is rock and opera!

Have you got any upcoming tours?
Yes, I am currently rehearsing for a tour with Nicki Minaj! I am so excited as she has been my idol since day one and she has always been my inspiration.

What makes your music unique to other artists?
My music will always have a positive vibe. It is very modern and it is up to date with the latest trends. It's also very addictive. It will make you want to listen to it over and over again.

What else do you do besides singing?
Well i'm busy all the time! But if I do have a bit of spare time I like to go out with my friends and family. But of course I am still only 18 so I always try and study in my spare time.

What has been your most memorable moment?
I think me touring with Rihanna was my most memorable moment because it was my first tour and I got to meet so many artists such as Chris Brown, J.Cole and JayZ.

Is there any information about your new album and is there a release date?
I have currently stopped recording for my album because I am concentrating on the tour with Nicki Minaj. But as soon as I finished the tour I will back in the studio to record my new album and hopefully it will be out in the summer 2015.

If you could win any award, which one would it be and why?
I would like to win 'Best Female International' because I don't just want to be known in Europe, I would want to be known worldwide. However, any award would mean the world to me because it will show how far and successful I have become, so I am so excited for my future!

Is there any advice you would give to young people now?
I would say to always follow your dreams and don't let anyone tell you that you cant do something.  Make sure you go into the career that you will enjoy and not regret.

Final Front cover

This is my final front cover for my music magazine. I have used the main features on my front cover such as the image, masthead, banner, headline and cover lines. My magazine is called 'Resonance' because it suits my genre of music which is RnB. I made this text in a large font because it is the first thing the readers will see. I've decided to go with the colour scheme of white, black and pink as they are easy to read against the image and these colour contrast. I have used a range of font sizes because it creates more emphasis. I have used a banner at the bottom of page to show what is included in my magazine. I have also used coverlines to show what artists are included within my magazine.

Double page spread analysis

This is a double page spread from a music magazine. The artists name is in bold writing and it the colour is bright pink. The colour of the text is more of a bolder pink that it contrasts with the background colour. The layout of this double page spread is different because the main image is in the middle of the page and there is text all around the picture. This image of Nicki Minaj shows that she has direct eye contact with the camera. The image shows that Nicki Minaj is a fierce women and that she is not challenging the typical stereotype for a female rap artist. Her bright pink lipstick matches the colour scheme of the double page spread because the majority of it is pink. The use of having a pink background suggests that the artist is going to be feminine. The title 'Nicki Minaj' is in a different shade of pink so that it contrasts with the background. The questions that are asked on this page are in bold writing so it is clear on the page. The main text is also in the colour black but it is in a smaller font size. The use of text within this double page spread highlights the important things about Nicki Minaj.

First contents page mock up

I created this contents page on fireworks. I started off by putting the image onto fireworks. I enlarged the image so that there is more attention on the picture. I then added the title 'contents'. I changed this to the colour pink so that my colour scheme is consistent. I then added the artist's name 'Hope'. I mad this text large and white so that it stands out the readers. Next I started to add the page numbers in. I made sure the page numbers were black and bold. I wanted the page numbers to be black so that it contrasted with the cover lines. These cover lines shows the readers what is included within my magazine. All of the cover lines are in the colour white so that is clear. I think my contents page suits my target audience because I have used simple colours and kept it consistent with my front cover.

Contents Page Mock-Up

This is my second contents page mock up. I created this mock up with fireworks and I started off with  writing my music magazine name which is 'Resonance'. This text is white so that it stands out and that is contrasts with the other colours that are used within the contents page. I then added the website of my music magazine underneath my masthead.  Next I added the headlines of what are included in my magazine such as regulars, interviews and reviews. Page numbers are included with the coverlines on the contents page. The page numbers are in the colour white and the text its grey and black. This is because it stands out compared to the page numbers. 'Contents' is at the top in the right hand corner in a bright pink colour. I choose pink because the colour is apart of the colour scheme and it is used on the front cover as well as the contents page. Contents is in a large font so that it stands out for the readers to see and it is the main heading on the page.

Contents Page photoshoot planning

I am going to have my cousin Hope Lescott posing for my music magazine contents page. I am going to take a variety of pictures for my contents page showing different way RnB artists can be represented as. The shots I will take are medium, long and close up shots. Some pictures may be of Hope looking directly at the camera. This could show she is a fierce RnB artist, or my audience could represent her in their own way. Being represented as a fierce woman is a typical stereotype of female RnB artist. The pictures are gong to be different so that they are not all the same and that it shows a different style of image.

I think about the way Hope will do her hair and make up so that it fits the genre of RnB. I want Hope to look like current female RnB artists, such as; Beyonce, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj or Kelly Rowland.

Here is a plan of my contents page photoshoot:

Contents page analysis

The masthead is clearly shown as 'Contents' They have placed it at the top of the page so it is easy to see. It is in black writing on a white background. This contents page has been divided into two columns. One column is the chart information and the other column speaks about new artists and upcoming events.  The page numbers are written next to each article. A colour scheme is used where the colours are kept the same. The main focus on the contents page are the images of the music artists. Different genres of artists are used on this contents page. This could show the audience the different genre of music that is included in the magazine.  Each of the images that are portrayed on the contents page are bright which would grab the readers attention. A range of fonts are used. The main headings are in bold writing so that it is clear and it stands out. The main stories that are featured in the magazine are highlighted on the contents page so its easier for the readers to see. The background of the contents page is white so that any text colour they use, can be seen by the audience. It also goes well with the images because it stands out.  The chart list gives the readers about music is current. The singles and artists are categorised by colours. This makes it easier for everyone because they can find what there looking for quicker. They have a consistent colour scheme which makes the contents page look professional.

Front Cover Mock Ups Development

I created these music magazine front covers in fireworks. In the first picture I started off with editing the image and then I placed the image into firework. I then created the masthead and I kerned the letters together so there was no spaces in-between. I enlarged the text so that it fits across the page. I then added the headline 'Laura Cooksey'. I enlarged this text because she is the headliner of the music magazine and her name is the first thing the readers see. I also added the headline 'World Exclusive'. I made this text pink so that it contrasts with 'Laura Cooksey'. Next I added the cover lines. These are here to show my audience what is included in magazine. I have made some of the text bold so that it stands out to my readers. I have used the same colours on this magazine front cover so that the colour scheme is consistent. These colours also suit my target audience.

I have used the same image for this music magazine front cover. However I have enlarged the image so I could cropped the picture so that the main image could more attention to the readers as she is the headliner of the magazine. I changed the headline from 'Laura Cooksey' to 'Laura'. This also grabs the readers attention because it stands out on the front cover. I then added a banner above 'Laura'. I made the banner transparent and then added the text 'world exclusive' on top of the banner. This attracts the audience because its clear and it stands out. Next, I added music artists names. I did these in capitals and bold writing because they are well known celebrities and they are going to be featured in my magazine. I then added a banner at the bottom of my front cover. The text on the banner also shows the audience what is going to be included in my magazine.

On my final front cover mock up, some of the features are the same such as the image, masthead, headline and cover lines. I have added in more cover lines on the right hand side so that there is no blank spaces on the front cover. I have kept the same colours for my cover lines so that it isn't confusing for my audience. I have included more music artists on the left hand side that might also be featured in my magazine. I added a barcode, issue number, date and price to my front cover in the left hand corner so that it is easy for my readers to find. I also added my music magazines website.

These three front cover mock ups shows my development of making music magazines front covers.
